Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersA Cork florist makes up the flowers and drops them to the house from Monday to Saturday. On the northside hills and in the big estates, the Eircode gets them there first time.
Cork is the second city of the Republic, with about 224,000 people since the city boundary was extended in 2019. Its centre is an island between two channels of the River Lee, and the streets climb steeply from the quays on the northside towards Shandon and Sunday's Well, while the southside spreads out through Douglas, Ballinlough and Blackrock towards Cork Harbour.
Delivery covers the island centre, the northside suburbs of Blackpool, Gurranabraher, Mayfield and Ballyvolane, the southside from Turners Cross and Douglas to Togher and Bishopstown, and the areas added to the city in 2019, among them Ballincollig, Glanmire and Rochestown. Ballincollig is listed separately too. Many Cork addresses repeat the same road name in several districts, so a full Eircode is worth adding. For an office on the docklands or a flat near University College Cork, give the building name and a phone number.
Cork University Hospital in Wilton is the largest, and Cork University Maternity Hospital is on the same campus, so many new-baby bouquets end up there. The Mercy, the South Infirmary-Victoria and the private Bon Secours and Mater Private hospitals are also in the city. Bedside space is scarce on most wards and some refuse fresh flowers outright; when unsure, a delivery to the house is the safe option.
Cork funerals happen fast, rarely more than three days after the death. Death notices list the funeral home and church, and some ask for family flowers only, in which case a bouquet to the house later on is the better gesture.
Did you know? Cork Harbour, at the mouth of the River Lee, is one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
