Spring bouquet with colourful flowers – send flowers to Galway

Galway lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay, and with almost 86,000 people it is the largest city in Connacht. The medieval streets around Shop Street and Quay Street, the Spanish Arch and the old fishing district of the Claddagh are the heart of it, but most people live in the suburbs that have grown out along the bay and the main roads.

Where in Galway the flowers can go

Delivery covers the city centre and the Claddagh, Salthill and Knocknacarra along the coast to the west, Newcastle, Shantalla and Rahoon near the university, Renmore and Mervue to the east, and the newer estates at Doughiska, Ballybrit and Roscam. Oranmore, a short drive east, is covered separately. In the large estates of Knocknacarra and Doughiska the same estate name runs across several roads, so the Eircode and the house number save time. A bouquet for a student at the University of Galway is safer sent to a home address than to a campus building.

Busy weeks in Galway

The Galway Races at Ballybrit at the end of July and the arts festival in July fill the city with visitors, and traffic slows everything down. If the flowers are for a fixed day in those weeks, order early in the day or the day before.

Galway City Council runs two cemeteries: Bohermore, also called the New Cemetery, and Rahoon (Mount St Joseph) on the western edge of the city. Fort Hill on Lough Atalia Road is the oldest cemetery still in use. Funeral flowers usually go to the funeral home or the church, so check the notice for the details.

Did you know? St Nicholas' Collegiate Church in Galway is the largest medieval church in Ireland still in everyday use.

Frequently asked questions about sending flowers to Galway

Are Salthill and Knocknacarra in the delivery area?
Yes. Salthill, Knocknacarra and Barna Road are all part of the delivery area along the bay. Knocknacarra has many estates with similar names, so add the Eircode and the house number to the order.
Is it harder to get a bouquet delivered during the Galway Races?
Race week at Ballybrit, at the end of July and into early August, brings heavy traffic and many events in the city. Deliveries still go out, but choose your date in good time and order early in the day if it is for that week.
Where are the main cemeteries in Galway city?
The two council cemeteries are Bohermore, near Cemetery Cross, and Rahoon on Rahoon Road. Fort Hill on Lough Atalia Road is the oldest one still in use. For a funeral, follow what the death notice says about flowers.
