Cork University Hospital, known locally as CUH, is a large university teaching hospital in Wilton, on the south-west side of Cork city. It opened in 1978, has about 800 beds and is one of the two major trauma centres in Ireland, the other being the Mater in Dublin. Medical students from University College Cork train there. Cork University Maternity Hospital, which opened in 2007, is on the same site near the main entrance, so the campus sees new babies as well as some of the most seriously ill patients in Munster.
