Flowers for St Vincent's University Hospital, Elm Park
St Vincent's University Hospital is a large teaching hospital on the Merrion Road in Dublin 4. Ring the ward to ask about flowers before you order.
St Vincent's University Hospital stands at Elm Park, at the junction of the Merrion Road and Nutley Lane in Dublin 4, opposite the Merrion Centre. It was founded in 1834 by Mother Mary Aikenhead on St Stephen's Green and moved to Elm Park in 1970. It is a principal teaching hospital of University College Dublin, and Ireland's first kidney transplant was carried out there in 1963. St Vincent's Private Hospital is on the same campus, and St Michael's Hospital in Dún Laoghaire is part of the same group.
Is it the public or the private hospital?
Because the public and private hospitals share the Elm Park site and a similar name, deliveries can go astray. Ask the family which one the patient is in, and put the exact hospital name on the order.
Flowers on the ward
Rules on fresh flowers vary from ward to ward. Intensive care, oncology and other units with vulnerable patients often do not allow them. Phone the ward first, or send a card now and flowers later. When flowers are welcome, a small arrangement that fits on a locker is best.
What to write on the order
The delivery should carry the patient's name as on the hospital wristband, the ward, St Vincent's University Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin 4, and a relative's mobile. If the patient is likely to be discharged soon, a delivery to the home is often the better choice.
